Many children warmed up to Dr. Maria after their work was done. This little boy was so happy, he gave Dr. Maria a kiss of gratitude.
Dr. Maria was given the opportunity to help all different types of patients, ranging from young children to older adults and senior citizens.
These patients were very scared before sitting in Dr. Maria’s chair. Many of these Honduran people had never been to a dentist before. Thankfully they were helped, and all of their dental needs were taken care of.
Dr. Katie Ball, from Portland, Oregon, was the other dentist from the United States to volunteer on this mission trip with Dr. Maria.
Dr. Oscar Espinosa is another dentist who joined the team from a neighboring city. Because he lives in Honduras, many of the patients that were seen who need additional work can now go to his practice for their future dental needs.
Barbara and Kathy volunteered their time and efforts for the cause. Both of these women had no prior experience, but heard about the mission trip and wanted to find any way to help. Dr. Maria and Dr. Ball quickly taught Barbara and Kathy how to assist. They both did a wonderful job.
Before – This young man had never visited a dentist before. His teeth were severely decayed and noticeable to the naked eye.
After – Dr. Maria restored all his anterior teeth with white fillings leaving him with a bright, white, and radiant smile.
The Honduras 2013 Dental Mission included a team of three dentist, Dr. Loukas, Dr. Ball, and Dr. Espinosa, Karen Martinez (Dr. Espinosa’s wife), two volunteers, two interpreters, and Ron Mashburn (the man who created the clinic).
All the equipment used had been donated by doctors and various dental supply companies. The clinic now has two working chairs, an X-ray machine, and a sterilization center.
