Invisalign offers a popular alternative to traditional braces. While both systems can correct misalignment, Invisalign does this without the use of metal brackets and wires. Below, we will discuss a few of the advantages of the Invisalign system.
How Does Invisalign Work?
Invisalign gradually and gently repositions your teeth using a series of clear plastic aligners. These plastic trays are custom-made using photographs, impressions, and innovative 3D computer imagery. The aligners are worn daily for the amount of time recommended by your Park Ridge dentist. In most cases, you will wear the aligners between 20 and 22 hours a day. Approximately every two weeks you will upgrade to a new set of aligners. About every six weeks, you will meet with your Park Ridge dentist so we can evaluate the progress of your treatment. In total, the treatment period lasts around a year for adults and up to 18 months for teens.
The Advantages of the Invisalign System
One of the most obvious advantages of Invisalign is improved esthetics. Unlike metal braces, your aligners will remain practically invisible. The aligners will also be comfortable. When wearing traditional orthodontics, many people report gum and cheek irritation. Since the Invisalign trays will be made to fit your smile using plastic, you will experience less discomfort.
With braces, you will typically need to avoid certain foods. Sticky foods may become stuck in your braces and hard foods can actually damage your orthodontics. With Invisalign, your aligners can be removed before each meal. Removable aligners also makes brushing and flossing your teeth easier, improving your oral hygiene and decreasing the risk of teeth stains.
Finally, seeing your Park Ridge dentist once every six weeks will reduce the strain on your already hectic schedule. This saves our patients both time and money.
