Suggestions for Freshening your Breath

Kiss on DateDo you have a hot date this weekend? Whether it is your first official date, or you’ve been married for 45 years, one thing is for sure, fresh breath should be an important goal any time you are out with someone you adore. If you want to make sure that you’re ready for your goodnight kiss this evening, read on to get fresh breath tips from Park Ridge dentists, Drs. Maria and Thanasi Loukas.

Tip #1: Brush and Floss Your Teeth

Okay, maybe this is obvious, but life gets busy and daily habits are easy to ignore. Perhaps you’ve been spending so much time trying to plan the perfect date, you have stressed yourself out and neglected your oral hygiene routine. Make sure you brush at least twice-a-day, and floss daily. Those stubborn bacteria that hide between your teeth can get trapped along with food particles and cause plaque buildup and bad breath.

Tip #2: See Your Dentist Every Six Months

Sure, it’s a little late to get to the dentist before your next date, but if you are overdue, don’t hesitate to call and make an appointment for a checkup and cleaning. Maintaining a six month checkup and cleaning schedule is a fantastic way to ensure that plaque (and its hardened form called tartar) doesn’t build up on your teeth and around your gumline. Cavities and gum disease are likely outcomes if you neglect your dental appointments.

Tip #3: Be Mindful of What you Order

A promising date is not time order the liver and onions, or the garlic mashed potatoes. Food choices may not be the cause of chronic bad breath issues, but things like garlic, onions, coffee, and wine can certainly taint your breath temporarily. If you just can’t help yourself, try to carry some travel sized oral hygiene implements with you – a toothbrush, toothpaste, and mouthwash. At the very least, be sure to have sugar-free gum or mints on hand for after dinner.
