Do Porcelain Veneers Look Real?

woman with a gorgeous smileAre you concerned with how your smile looks? Porcelain veneers have gained a lot of popularity as a diverse and realistic cosmetic treatment, improving the smiles of patients from all walks of life with a multitude of different dental issues. Veneers can offer your smile a brand new face, and they owe their success to their realistic appearance (when crafted and placed by experts). For over 30 years, Dr. Loukas has treated, restored, and improved patients’ smiles by combining wealth of experience with innovative dental technology and materials. Porcelain veneers help many of our patients with discolored, chipped, cracked, misshapen, or slightly misaligned teeth often find joy in smiling again without the need for extensive treatment.

Details, Details, Details

Depending on the severity of your cosmetic concerns, improving your smile may require more than a simple teeth whitening or dental bonding procedure. As their name suggests, veneers are bonded to the front surfaces of your blemished teeth. To actually improve your smile, the thin shells of porcelain must mimic your teeth in size, shape, color, and shine. To match a natural tooth’s appearance, veneers are crafted in a trusted dental lab that specializes in porcelain restorations. Skilled technicians carefully tint the porcelain to match your tooth’s color and shade, and then layer the thin, semi-translucent material until it reflects light the way your enamel does. Each veneer is sculpted to the exact dimensions of its corresponding tooth, and once they’re completed, Dr. Loukas can artfully bond the veneers to your teeth.

An Artistic Masterpiece

A successful smile makeover is a collaborative effort between you, Dr. Loukas, and the ceramist who crafts your porcelain restoration. Before your procedure begins, Dr. Loukas will consult with you to determine your goals and expectations, and perform a comprehensive examination to make sure that veneers are the right choice. To prepare your teeth, Dr. Loukas will sculpt away a small amount of tooth enamel (typically less than 0.3mm) to comfortably accommodate the thin porcelain shells. Once they’re carefully bonded in place, your veneers will look and feel like your natural teeth, but without the blemishes that caused you grief before your treatment.
